It's Dangerous Bringing Black Lives Into the World
Understanding What Matters and Why

For millions of American women, pregnancy brings not only the anticipation of new life, but also the risk of death. The words maternal and infant should not be linked to the word mortality, but in black communities and households throughout America, that is the harsh reality. Women who die during pregnancy (due to complications) or within 42 days after the end of a pregnancy whether or not they give birth, are included in a horrifying statistic known as maternal mortality. Infant mortality rates include babies that die before their first birthday.
